Risk Management and Insurance Provide a general description of the work at your internship. As an Instant Quote Intern, I spent much of my day on the phone with insurance agents and brokers seeing if USLI had an insurance product for their specific situation. If it was something that was eligible for an "instant quote", I would get them over to an underwriter to assist them in getting a quote. If it wasn't eligible, I would see if the risk could be considered on a paper application or send them to their wholesaler to see if there was another market for them.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor was there to train me on customer service relations over the phone as well as always being open to answering any question I had.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, one of the biggest aspects of talking with people who have been in the industry for years was having a specific type of language down. Thanks to the risk classes I had already taken, I was able to have a head start on knowing some of the insurance language.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Supplemental Benefits we had were free lunches every day, free gym access, and free access to a basketball court.
Describe the company's internship program.
The company had a great internship program that was inclusive and very open to getting you involved right away. The company culture and attitude toward interns at USLI was tremendously supportive and helpful which made me never feel afraid to ask for help.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Honestly, the internship was not at all what I was expecting based on my interview. Due to a special situation of a snow day on the day of my interview, I was unable to tour the company or get a better feel for the people I was meeting. When I finally arrived to USLI, I was pleasantly surprised in how nice the company environment and people actually were.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Yes, USLI maxed their interns out at 29 hours a week, so we were designated one day off per week.
