Location

Please list your major(s) and minor(s).
Major: Actuarial Science, Minor: Statistics
Provide a general description of the work at your internship:- I worked on the Market Value Numbers team, so I was responsible for creating, analyzing, and loading models for all of the life, health, and COLI/BOLI products.
Did you have a mentor?
No
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, especially discounting cash flows/annuities that we learned in Theory of Interest
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I helped create Python code to compress the inforce for VUL and LAUL policies.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Money was given for housing but was not provided. We had a few lunch and learns where high level people in the company spoke to us.
Describe the company's internship program
There was not a very steady work load, so around quarter-end you would be very busy and the rest of the time you would not have much to do. There were only 2 interns at the office so we did not have events specifically for interns.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
I got Memorial Day and the 4th of July off.

Double Major of Actuarial Science and Finance
Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
At my internship, I updated the assumption by completing the 2019 Unlocking GMAB (guaranteed minimum accumulation benefit) rider surrender experience study from scratch. To do this, I created new SQL and Alteryx code to gather and analyze over 1.5 million records of data, for the $2.1 billion GPS (guaranteed principal solution) block of business. I then presented in front of team and upper management the rationale behind the changes to the current assumption
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
He was the best! He would meet with me more than twice everyday to check my progress and make sure I was on the right track. He was definitely someone I felt I could go to at anytime with a question or anything.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Somewhat. Specifically for me, my actuarial corporate finance class gave me some background information that helped me understand what I was doing. Other than that, just being familiar with coding and excel helped tremendously.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I had the initial interview at reception and had another interview the next day at Fox. I then went to the location for a full day interview that was split between a team project, an informational lunch, and two more individual interviews.
Were you assigned any special projects?
Yes, I was tasked with updating the GMAB study that I spoke of before. This was my main summer project. I actually felt I was productive and contributing for the team because this project was actually meant for mentor to complete by the end of the year, and I was able to complete it for him.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
We went out for a few lunches. We also had go-karting, escape rooms, mini-gold, and participated in a volunteering event. We were also given housing if you lived a certain mile radius away from the location.
Describe the company's internship program.
The company has a very laid-back atmosphere and everyone was very friendly. The people made everyone feel included by having games at lunch. The workload felt manageable, and they understood that we were only interns. There would also be after-work sports if you wanted to participate, and a couple of barbecues.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Honestly, I didn't know what to expect so I was glad I had the experience I did.

Actuarial Science and Risk Management
Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I worked on the Variable annuity reserving team where I helped maintain and run stochastic models, summarize data from model runs, and use vba to make improvements on excel workbooks
Did you have a mentor?
No
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yeah, but not as much as I thought it would. A lot of the work was in computer programs where math was not needed
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
It was stressful as always, but pretty standard. Three rounds of interviews all in person. Last round was at their office
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
One of my projects I worked with data analysts and IT to update our data formats. So I set up alteryx workflows to query data sets to find the mismatches from past to current databases. It was really interesting to see how this process would impact our company!
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Many lunches were provided, happy hours, a baseball game, beach volleyball, scavenger hunts, golf outing, and a housing stipend
Describe the company's internship program
I thought it was a healthy mix of work and networking experience. I got to go on many excursions, and also work on multiple projects my team were a part of.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Pretty much so!
