Lev Tates spent his summer working with the management liability team at Hiscox Incorporated in Boston, Massachusetts. He enjoyed the time he spent in Boston and found his transition to a new city was very easy once he met a few new people. Once he had familiarized himself with the underwriting guidelines and rating system, his daily tasks consisted of underwriting some small accounts. Lev felt his risk management classes provided a strong insurance background, and his internship in turn assisted him in his insurance operations class.
Lev had a decent idea of what his internship would be like from his interview, but the hiring process moved quickly and only consisted of a first round interview. He attended lunches and happy hours with employees and clients, but had to pay for housing arrangements himself. Lev particularly enjoyed the work he received, and the people he worked with. Although, he feels the workload could have been more structured at times during the summer, particularly when his co-workers went on vacation. Lev would recommend Hiscox Inc. to other students.
