Scott interned at Mercer in Norwalk, CT, he thought the adjustment to the new city was pretty easy. The interview process was also very quick. He got emailed on Wednesday to set up a phone interview for that Thursday at 9:00am, by 11:00am they called back to set up a second interview in Norwalk for the Friday, and all the transportation was paid for. During his time there his daily activities varied, but they included a lot of benefit reviews, RFP response spreadsheets, and a lot of excel and access work. He did have a mentor there. He felt that the RMI classes helped him become incredibly prepared for his internship, he knew almost every abbreviation and acronym that he encountered at work.
While there, Scott was not specifically assigned a special project, however he did help out a lot on the pharmacy coalition team. Some of the supplemental benefits included “lunch and learn” two to three times a month, two out of office happy hours, and a few in office happy hours as well. He really loved the atmosphere and the work assigned to him. The housing was fine but he felt that he picked a bad location due to the heavy traffic. He also would like to have had more outside work activities. He also felt that the hour restriction was annoying, where they were only limited to 40 hours a week, which is difficult to adhere to in a consulting environment. So he ended up fudging his hours a bit and working extra time that he wasn’t compensated for, but he totally didn’t mind the extra hours! He thought his internship was fantastic and would definitely recommend Mercer to other students.
