John worked for Gallen Insurance, Inc this past summer. He performed many clerical duties such as answering phones, entering cancellations, reinstatements and policy renewals. His introductory RMI classes provided him a great foundation for these tasks as well as an overall “insurance industry framework”. He also worked on special projects where he helped the agency to communicate with “Generation Y”. This was the area that needed improvement in their personals lines sales such as auto, home, and renters.
John got the internship through a personal relationship with the owner, thus he was the first intern there. The company had about 20 employees, with the ages ranging between 45-50. He did not have one specific mentor but instead he observed all the employees and their daily activities. His favorite things about the internship were the people and the laidback atmosphere. John would wish for a better structure for the program, but it’s understandable since this was the company’s first intern. He would recommend the company and states that it would take a certain personality to enjoy it. Some factors to consider would include location, people, pay and the atmosphere. This would be best for people who would like to work in a small office, with an individualized working environment.
