Risk Management Summer 2019
|
Role
Loss Control Intern
Location
Philadelphia (Center City)
When did you work there?
Summer 2019
Please list your major(s) and minor(s).
RMI Provide a general description of the work at your internship. As the loss control intern I had the chance to travel to our insureds and help out with inspections. While in the office I followed up on safety recommendations our representatives had issued and researched reducing losses for our insureds.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentors did a great job in teaching me about loss control. I formed a great relationship with them.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
The interview was fairly easy as we mostly chatted. My manager was former military and I am former ROTC making the military the weight of the conversation.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe. There was no one in my department based in Philadelphia. My manager was only there once a week which means I was mostly on my own.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
The benefits were wonderful. My meals were paid for several times a week and all my travel expenses to insureds locations.
Describe the company's internship program.
My internship was unique since I was mostly on my own. I needed good self discipline and high problem solving skills since there was no one there with me. There were several times I had to fly or drive to places by myself. This was good for me but I would not recommend it to someone who has never traveled before.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Somewhat, I was the first ever loss control intern.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
No.
