This summer Tammy interned at ECBM in West Conshohocken, PA. She assisted the marketing manager performing new business development. She prepared submissions to company underwriters (ACORD applications and coverage specifications), customized loss run summaries and new business insurance proposals for producers. Tammy also created and filed electronic copies of documents for clients because ECBM is now a paperless agency. She also worked on completing ACORD applications for agents to submit to insurance companies. She did not have an official mentor, but her supervisor Jan O’Rourke mentored her throughout her time there. She thought that the RMI classes were helpful in getting her acquainted with different insurance policies. Tammy got this position through the Internship Reception, and she thought that the HR manager Karen Young was very thorough and always made sure to periodically check in with Tammy during her time at the company.
Some additional benefits to her internship were two welcome luncheons, one with key management employees and the other with Temple Alumni. She was also invited to join insurance company sponsored lunches. Also, an ice cream social was organized to say goodbye to the three summer interns. She liked that ECBM had a family atmosphere, since it was a small to mid-size company. Everyone in the office was very friendly, helpful, and really liked to have fun, so she fit right in! She would like to have had more structure throughout her time there, sometimes she would find herself looking for something to do. Overall, she would definitely recommend ECBM to other students.
