Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
Developed and maintained professional relationships with company colleagues, clients, and carriers and relayed and applied knowledge acquired in the academic setting to the company setting. Assisted with various projects related to Executive and Professional Specialty practice, including obtaining Executive liability indications for clients and creating cyber liability toolkits for producers to take on prospect meetings. Additionally, reviewed Executive Liability policies to check for relevant endorsements and cataloged definitions for producers.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
She helped me a lot during my internship. Her desk was right behind mine, so I was able to easily reach out to her any time I had questions about my projects. She created a specific syllabus of projects for me to complete throughout the summer and met with me every Friday to go over the ones I had completed for the week as well as explain the ones for the upcoming week. She was always available to help with anything I needed and was so patient and willing to explain anything I needed help with.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Not really, the classes mostly seem to be more obscure and not what actually goes on when it comes to actual work. I am in bootcamp now and they kind of touch on some things that were relevant in my internship, but I don't think it would have helped me to take the class before because we didn't learn anything super in depth. For example, I learned what an endorsement was at my internship by reading a policy and actually reading one, versus just hearing an explanation of what an endorsement is in class.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I applied online and did a hirevue (online interview just answering questions) and then had two phone interviews. One was with a recruiter and the next was with the head of my department.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
Each of the interns had to do a final presentation that was about a department we weren't working in. I had to do mine on claims, so I had to meet with the head of claims and a few people who worked in claims to help get info. We all met at the end and had to present in front of all of the other interns and the Vice President and CEO of the company.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
None
Describe the company's internship program.
It really depended on the department that you were in! Some had much more work than others, so this is something I would ask about when you are interviewing! All of the interns had to complete certain things such as webinars and these online modules, but they were really simple and only took like a week. The rest of the work depended on what your mentor/department gave you to do. I was pretty busy but not overwhelmingly, but I know some of the interns didn't always have much to do.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
I didn't have a ton of expectations, but it definitely exceeded them. I absolutely loved my team and learned SO much. They really let me be so hands on and do actual work, which I really appreciated. Everyone in the office was so friendly and so willing to help with anything we needed.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
We didn't really get any additional time off other than a half day the day before 4th of July and the 4th, but my mentor knew I was from Pennsylvania so I asked her if I could work remotely from home the last two days of that week so that I could go visit my family because I was super homesick and they had no problem with it at all.

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
I assisted the business development team that helped the producers and claim representatives for the first half of the summer. The second half of the summer, I assisted and went to meetings with the Workers Compensation department. My main task during the internship was to make a online database of all the questions that are asked during the interview process producers go through when getting a new client. I also helped the claim department by organizing and reporting some claims through their claim management system. The hours are usually 8:30am to 5pm, but they were very flexible with me and let me come in a little earlier so I could leave earlier, there is also the option to work from home once you have more time with the company.
Did you have a mentor?
No
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
N/A
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, because I was one of the few people that chose insurance as their major in college so I was able to help with more advanced stuff because i knew the topic and comprehended the subject.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
The interview process was very simple and quick because they announced their intern program very late during the spring. I interviewed with the HR person over the phone and two weeks later was called back for an interview with my future boss over the phone. I was given notice that I was accepted for the internship program a week after that. The questions were relatively general and they did not ask me any questions about the insurance industry.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I, along with 2 other interns, were assigned an intern project in which we had to interview different people at the office and find out about their roles. We then had to present in front of the CEO, CFO, our bosses, and the executive team and explain to them what the office does and the purpose for each department.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
We had happy hours in the office every month and were also given lunches every month. I had to pay for my own housing but they helped me look for somewhere to live close to the office.
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The atmosphere of the company is very relaxed, everyone can wear casual clothing if they are not meeting with a client that day, everyone is friendly at the company and they are very proud of that. The interns had a webinar series every week that we shared with the interns at the MMA- Mid Atlantic office about all the different sides of the company and the different departments. The workload was very light and I often had to ask for more work.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?

If you had to relocate, describe the process of adapting to a new city.
I had to relocate to Minneapolis, MN for the summer. The culture in Minneapolis is very different than Philadelphia, everyone prides themselves for being nice. Apart from the culture, it was very easy to adjust. I found housing around the university of Minnesota and commuted to the office by bus.
