Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I worked in the product management department, mainly creating projection calculators to show policyholders' account values based on requested changes.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor was in my department so I was able to check my work with him and ask him any questions I had when my manager was not around. He also provided exam and career advice.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, I had knowledge of many of the concepts I worked with.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I had one phone screen interview with an FSA and a two-hour Skype interview with 5 FSAs and the HR manager.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I was asked to research methods of securely storing passwords in R scripts and presented my options to the managers.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Weekly lunch and learns, baseball game, biweekly happy hours, casual Fridays, "summer hours" - leave early on Fridays, informal study hours, exam day off
Describe the company's internship program
The internship was very relaxed. The office atmosphere was casual. All of the employees were kind and included the interns in activities. The workload was manageable and engaging. They were flexible and accommodating of my exam sitting.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
I expected the internship to be more formal than it was.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Unpaid as needed
