Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I had a very hands-on experience with all of the Benefits Division during their busiest quarter. I was scheduled to shadow three Consultants on client calls and meetings throughout my fourteen weeks at Lamb. On a day-to-day basis, I was multi-tasking between completing my internship projects while assisting the Consultants with client Powerpoint presentations, updating open enrollment materials, and completing carrier change spreadsheets after open enrollments.
Did you have a mentor?
No
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I did not have a mentor.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, in many ways. RMI 3501 allowed me to quickly comprehend and execute my day-to-day responsibilities properly because I developed a thorough understanding of employee benefit plan designs. I was also able to understand what was being discussed when shadowing account managers at client meetings and learn how my lessons from class applied to benefit consultants.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
The interviewing process was four interviews in total. The first interview took place at the internship reception with the HR Recruiter. The second interview was twenty minutes and on-campus with two account managers. The following week, I was offered a final round interview at Lamb's office. The final round interview was an hour and a half with the same account managers as well as an account executive where we focused primarily on work ethic and experiences. A few days later, I was scheduled for a fifteen-minute phone interview with the President of the Benefits Division. I received a phone call from the Senior Account Manager with my offer about a week after speaking with the President.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
My first project was to enhance the current benchmarking tool and update all of the clients' medical plan designs and demographic information. This project enhanced my understanding of plan design, the ability to effectively read SBCs, and provided me with a strong overview of Lamb's book of business. The second project was to streamline the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for the Producers. I was responsible for compiling, organizing, and updating responses from previous RFPs onto one cohesive document so producers could reduce their time spent completing the RFP for their prospect.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Lamb had multiple happy hours over the summer. I was also given four ""summer Fridays,"" where I could leave at 12:30 pm on the Fridays of my choice. Lamb also provided paid time off on all national holidays over the summer.
Describe the company's internship program.
Lamb Insurance Services is a small, yet rapidly growing, insurance brokerage firm that focuses on servicing nonprofits and social organizations. I reported to the Senior Account Manager in Conshohocken, PA and was also able to work in their New York office when attending client meetings in New York City.
I was given the opportunity to structure my internship program around what I wanted to learn from their benefits team. In addition to my summer projects, I wanted to learn about each area in their division and began working with all of the Consultants, Benefits Specialists, Producers, and the President of the Benefits Division. I was also able to pivot into receiving a larger workload after interacting with the entire team, all of whom were extremely welcoming. I had the opportunity to perform several smaller projects, some of which include managing the quarterly NPS nominations, filing Form 720s for all clients with PCORI fees, and creating a template for clients' new hire benefit guides.
At the beginning of my internship, I was invited to a new hire breakfast accompanied by all of the senior leadership and the CEO, Josh Lamberg, welcomed us and spoke about how he created his company. Being at a smaller company gave me a greater opportunity to interact with senior leadership and made it more exciting to learn about the dynamics of a brokerage firm. I was able to attend daily huddles where the benefits team spoke of their goals of the day and attend monthly CEO addresses where the CEO reported the company's performance or any updates.
At the end of my internship, I presented my internship experience to all of the senior leadership and was honored to receive positive feedback from each of the officers. Overall, Lamb Insurance Services provided me with an abundance of experience and exposure to the insurance industry within a span of 14 weeks.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, I learned a great amount about the insurance industry and had the opportunity to apply my knowledge gained from class and through Gamma's speaker series into my work as an intern.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Lamb was very accommodating and did offer time off, however, I chose not to take it. Lamb closed all offices at 2:30 pm on the day before a national holiday and closed all offices on national holidays.

Yes, multiple. Most projects had to do with automation of a BSRs daily tasks to better utilize their time during business hours. Most projects fell under that category.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Summer Fridays, Happy Hours, Lunch & Learns, Group Lunches, LOTS of Gala Invites
Describe the company's internship program.
Great atmosphere, temple dominated, very social and welcoming. Tons of opportunities to travel to open enrollment meetings, prospective client meetings, even just the the NYC office. Smaller broker so tons of work and opportunities that I don't think you would get in a more structured and pipeline type of company.

Yes, very much what I was expecting.
