Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
My work consisted of:
- Completion and review of financial accounting reports on Governmental Accounting Standards Board No. 67 & 68 regarding pension standards for state and local governments
- Conducting experience study of 2012-2018 comparing actuarial assumptions used at Korn Ferry, ex. discount rate, inflation rate, salary growth factor, versus actual events happening at the given county
- Completion pension calculations for various clients applying right retirement factors based on the retirees’ age/gender/ salary/years of service/their spouses’ age and gender.
- Updating Excel spreadsheets with spouses names for the client’s retirees; updated factors in mortality tables
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor was incredibly useful allocating half an hour per day to give me the task and explain how to do it. At the end of the day I was also provided with a feedback.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Since I was was working a lot with discounting/accumulating, Theory of Interest turned out to be beneficial.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
My final project was to complete a regulatory report for a certain county in Pennsylvania, reassuring the state in sufficiency of county's reserves to pay off promised pension benefits.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Happy Hours, Trivia Night.
Describe the company's internship program.
Amazing team willing to help, assist, teach, mentor, and inspire. Everyone knows each other perfectly on professional and personal levels.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
I knew from the very beginning that Korn Ferry was a great company but it turned out to be even better than I expected.
