Janna worked at Maiden Re in Mount Laurel, New Jersey. She was accustomed to the area, but had to adjust to a 90 minute commute from her home to work each way. She was an intern in the small Accident and Health department and worked closely with the Vice President of A&H Underwriting, as well as the Vice President of the A&H Department. In her daily activities, she worked closely with an A&H actuary while sitting in on meetings and phone calls as well as organizing and filing paperwork. Janna believes both her majors helped her prepare for this internship, her risk classes helped her understand the materials and plans she worked on, and her actuarial classes helped her when she worked with the actuary.
Janna had a clear idea of what the internship would be like after her interviewing process, and one of her interviewers was a VP she worked with closely. She had the opportunity to attend an all day meeting in New York City about terrorist threats and how the city was dealing with them. Also, on a half day, she enjoyed a ball park style lunch and participated in a company softball game. Janna was glad that she worked in such a small division, with important people, so her position wasn’t forgotten about. She does wish the internship was more structured, because there were days she didn’t have anything to do. Janna recommends this company to other students.
