Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I was assigned to shadow an underwriter on a daily basis. She taught me how to do a majority of the underwriting tasks and assigned me work to do.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, I felt very well prepared.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
Very straightforward. Standard Interview
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
Yes, the other interns and myself gave a presentation to management on the implications of changing marijuana laws on the insurance industry.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Lunches, 1 happy hour, CPCU exam paid for.
Describe the company's internship program.
The internship was a combination of learning and completing basic underwriting tasks such as renewals, reviewing new business, policy endorsements, etc, as well as studying to complete a CPCU exam. The work load was manageable. The employees were very friendly and were open to help or answer any questions. There weren't a whole lot of activities outside of work.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, for the most part.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Yes, unpaid vacation days were available upon request.
