Actuarial Science
Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I was staffed on a life insurance actuarial consulting project that allowed me to gain exposure to the types of work that consulting firms complete. I also had an opportunity to pursue other actuarial work with the firm in my spare time, so that I could better understand which insurance field I found most interesting for my career.
Did you have a mentor?

Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I was fortunate enough to have two wonderful mentors with my time at Deloitte. One was an informal mentor who had start at the company not long before I joined for the summer. This "buddy" was able to show me what life was like at Deloitte and was there to answer any questions I may have regarding day-to-day expectations or what their experience had been with the company that far. My other mentor/coach was more of a formal relationship than was built where we discussed my goals for the summer and reviewed feedback that I received from my client teams.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, the course here at Temple allowed me to start working and making an impact right away.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I was staffed "full-time" on a life project where we observed the embedded value of an insurance carrier to see where future profits would be coming from for the company. I was also on a full time project that analyzed upcoming changes for GAAP (more specifically long duration targeted improvements) and how those changes would affect the book-keeping for an insurance company.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
There were countless happy hours and networking opportunities all throughout the summer for me to meet countless Deloitte practitioners, along with various lunches with my work teams and mentors.
Describe the company's internship program (atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
Overall it was an incredible experience working with Deloitte. The hours where fair, as was the pay. There were also opportunities to travel during the summer; I was able to travel to Atlanta for training, Chicago for a life insurance conference, and to Dallas to visit Deloitte University.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
