Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
During my internship this past summer the beginning weeks was just shadowing members of the Employee Benefits Department and starting to learn the platforms they use. The workload, other than the main project I worked on during the summer, was more so just work that popped up that they asked me to complete.
Did you have a mentor?
No
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, 3501 prepared me extremely well for this internship.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I interviewed at Temple, and they asked me a couple surprise questions such as "tell us a joke". Overall, awesome people to interview with!
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
The main project I worked on this summer involved building a library of over 300 different policies for small groups in the company's Employee Benefit platform. They already had all of their large groups in the platform, so my role was to reach out to carriers and gather all the information pertaining to all of the small groups plans to be able to put this information in the platform. These plans included their medical, dental, vision, life, or AD&D.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
I was taken out to lunch on my first day and multiple other days lunch was provided. There was a kitchen with coffee and a fridge full of different drinks that was open to the office.
Describe the company's internship program.
The internship program did not provide housing, so I was able to find a subleasing apartment about 15 minutes away from work. This was not too hard to find as Rutgers in New Brunswick was very close. The workload was definitely manageable and they were very understanding if I needed more time to complete something. The office was a smaller office, about 20-25 employees, so the office really felt like a family. Everyone was extremely welcoming and kind to me, so it made it feel like home. Definitely an awesome experience!
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Sure.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
I had off on the 4th and 5th of July.
