Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
Generated client-ready reports for the chief actuary to implement into the new versions of our Health Benefits Consulting Suite. Utilized Microsoft Excel, macros, and VBA to analyze over $500 Billion of Medicare billed charges across 6 medical service categories to develop area factors and network discounts at the 3-digit zip code, 2-digit zip code, and state levels. Wrote test scripts and documented issues for the new versions of our Health Benefits Consulting Suite
Did you have a mentor? Yes If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentors not only taught me the tools needed to be successful as an intern, but helped me develop a deeper understanding of the industry, why we’re doing what we’re doing, and the overall direction that we want to take the company.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes. Learning the basic fundamentals about health insurance and the various tools used to create different plan structures helped me get up the learning curve quickly and be an effective resource for the team early on.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
One of the biggest challenges we faced as a company was being able to present a large amount of information about complicated health insurance concepts in a simplistic way. In order to help our company overcome this challenge, we were given the task of creating reports that clearly conveyed the information and stated why this information is important in making a decision about his/her company’s health plan.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Team lunches, escape room, cooking school, and various other team-building events.
Describe the company's internship program.
Claros Analytics has a friendly and collaborative culture. You were given meaningful projects that ended up being included in Claros’ final products. Everyone is easy to talk to and care about the ideas and opinions you bring to the table and I felt like I was a regular full-time employee.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
The internship was much more collaborative than I was expecting.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
We were given time off on holidays and I was allowed to leave early and take time off to prepare and sit for my actuarial exam.
