Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
Loss run analysis/data input, carrier meeting shadowing, cold calling, new client meetings, client loss mitigation safety project with presentation.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I was offered structured guidance from various producers during the internship. They not only gave me insight on the sales cycle, but also enriched me on the problem-solving skills necessary to succeed in the industry. From one-on-one instructional meetings to hands-on shadowing, this experience truly sharpened my skill set.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes. I still needed certain explanations when evaluating policy language. But, the knowledge absorbed during 3501 and 3502 was critical and had application in various departments I worked in.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I had the privilege of working on a risk management project with the office's largest client by revenue: Bergey's Wholesale Parts. My task was to perform two ride-alongs with Bergeys delivery drivers along their routes and note possible loss exposures. I transferred my findings onto a safety report document, and presented my work to the Bergeys safety committee along with the office risk manager, Gordon Smoko.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Various employees and managers from the office had taken myself and my fellow intern, Matt Persichetti, to a lunch at the Apollo Grill in downtown Bethlehem. We also were able to participate in the company summer picnic. Matt and I were even tasked with designing one of the team-building games at the picnic.
Describe the company's internship program.
Questions were always met with an enthusiastic response. The atmosphere was one of encouragement and I felt an internal desire to contribute to the team environment right off the bat.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes.
