Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I completed data integrity review of third party liability company’s insurance claims to ensure that the data reported correlated to what is in the system. Additionally, I classified data into excel pivot tables to easily extrapolate information to create policies based on segment use. Moreover, I created formulas to find basic indicators of dynamics of development to company’s policies relating to vehicle comprehensive use.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor was showing me the examples of his past work, which I used as a model. Afterwards, my work was checked by him and analyzed in order to provide me with reasonable criticism.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
My Actuarial Probability class has definitely provided me with useful technical skills of calculating expected loss, median, and mean, which are "bread and butter" for the Property and Casualty Insurance.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I was assigned to investigate the reasons for negative profitability for the service cars segment of company's portfolio. It turned out that all vehicles of this segment had high frequency but loss severity of accidents. The solution me and my mentor came up with is to increase the deductible for this type of vehicles.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
I have been to a few happy hours of the company, which I found to be an excellent networking opportunity.
Describe the company's internship program.
This internship program was absolutely beneficial from the technical knowledge perspective. I did not experience a lot of social event, but day-to-day work routine was extremely useful. For example, my Excel skills have increased tremendously thanking to Arsenal Insurance. I worked about 40 hours per week, mainly with large date in Excel, calculating variety of ratios. Working environment was friendly and helpful.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
The internship was exactly how it was described during the hiring process.
