Absolutely

Majority of the work was task related, or supporting a team, so not many "projects" per se. However, there was a competitive and well-designed capstone competition among interns. That experience helped prepare me for my senior capstone course.

Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I had one main project where I worked on a population migration model to model how members would shift going from one plan to another.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
She would answer any general insurance questions I had.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Kind of. All the insurance terms were new to me. I also felt as though all my math was useless in the real world.
Were you assigned any special projects?
My main project was looking at pricing of EPO products compared to PPO products and seeing where EPOs should be priced relative to PPOs. I did this by using PPO data and making assumptions based on Out of Network claims to see how a PPO member would react with an EPO product.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Free housing. Uber account for getting to and from work. Happy Hours. Intern Lunches. Executive Speaker Series.
Describe the company's internship program.
It was a good atmosphere. Everyone was nice and willing to help. Though, it was a little unorganized because Aetna did some restructuring before the interns came on, so I ended up not having a team to work in. Housing was done well and it was nice to have housing looked after in California. They even let us leave early from work when the wildfires started up.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
The internship was nothing like what I expected. It was much more laid back and the project I did was much more involved. I also thought I'd have more guidance
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
I was provided time off if I needed to study for an exam, and I was also given time off for wildfires.
