Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
Construction was very fast paced due to it being more client facing. Therefore, projects had very short timeline because the client needed it. I completed and assisted the client servicing team with creating models, reports, and graphs for clients. I attended external client meetings where I took the notes to be sent to the client afterwords. I worked with brokers on analysis and compare different quotes. I also worked with the claims team on a benchmarking analysis and total cost of risk projects.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
Yes, it was someone in the full time Graduate Development Program. She helped me navigate my internship whether it was questions about the full time or difficulties within my team.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
My RMI classes gave be an understanding of the insurance terminology so my team did not have to explain every term. However, there was still projects I had to questions for.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I applied on Willis Towers Watson website. Then I took an online assessment test and a prerecorded online interview. The program advisor reached out for an interview in their New York office. The in person interview included meeting with current full time Graduate Development Program colleagues, interviewing with four colleagues for 30 minutes each, and then a case competition.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
On the Construction team, I was assigned multiple projects throughout my internship including creating different models for different clients. The program had an intern project where we worked with the interns in the program across North America.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Orientation in Chicago, Happy Hours
Describe the company's internship program
The internship program workload slow in the beginning but once I began reaching out to all the members on my team I became more busy. I found that my team was very entrepreneur, meaning if you want to be more challenged you just have to ask different members of your team. My manager gave me some few projects to start but I was encouraged if you can handle more work to ask.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, meeting the the full time Graduate Development colleagues allowed for me to have a clear expectation of the internship.

Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
Interns spend a lot of time with the more recent hires at WTW. Every day we walked around to ask people for work or just catch up. People are often busy, but the more you get to know them, the easier it is for them to hand over work to you. When no one has work to show you or hand over, the group project is another great item spend time on.
Did you have a mentor?
There was no mentorship, but colleagues offered guidance throughout the summer.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I talked with WTW at the intern reception and had an interview the next week. I received a call the next day.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
Yes, we were assigned a group intern project (AS and RMI interns working together). The project changes every year depending on who directs it. I worked with the other interns on two presentations for a mock client. The client relationship was new so we presented an overview of benefits along with a HSA request for proposal.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Two summer happy hours were set up. Lunch was provided every other week or so, depending on meetings. Health and Benefits breakfast on Thursdays.
Describe the company's internship program.
We were expected to work 8:30-5:00, with an hour lunch break. The interns do not have a heavy work load at the beginning, but it picks up throughout the summer. There are not any outside work activities. However, people are open to meeting up outside of work if you make the effort.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, the internship was what I expected. The interview process includes information on the group project and sets an expectation that you will ask others in the office for work.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
When an emergency came up, they were flexible with the interns taking time off.

Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
The internship was very hands on; a typical day included both "client work" and the "intern project". Client work consisted of reviewing and manipulating data in Excel, creating and editing deliverables such as PowerPoint slides, and compiling documents and data for the client teams. I had the opportunity to shadow and assist two client teams throughout the summer, which allowed me to see assignments move from suggestions to finished products as time progressed. The intern project was a consulting case scenario; the team of three interns worked together to create a presentation for a client, then presented to WTW consultants. The intern project gave us experience in not only creating a presentation and presenting to clients, but also how to go about financial analysis, benchmarking, and industry research.
Did you have a mentor?
No
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
Although I did not have a formal mentor, I worked closely with several analysts and some consultants. They helped me to work through tasks that were new to me, as well as gave me advice on how to approach tasks. The two intern project leaders were essentially mentors to the interns.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
RMI 3501 (Human Capital Risk) gave me a solid foundation to build upon during the internship. Knowing background information, current events, and common terms made it easier to understand tasks and ask questions. The internship helped to put what I had learned into context.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
On-campus interview after the Intern Reception. Offer was received promptly.
Were you assigned any special projects?
Most projects fell into the description provided previously.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
We were invited to an analyst happy hour, and our people manager had an end-of-internship happy hour for us as well. We had a first day of work lunch with the analysts; our client teams and people manager also took us for lunches to celebrate the last week of the internship. We also got free lunches several times more randomly, and there were a few lunch and learns. We were invited to all the events happening in the office; we even got to attend a visit with a major executive in the company. I also was able to attend several of the workshops happening throughout the summer, which I really appreciated. Finally, the company hosts several wellness activities; this summer was a weekly yoga class, which I got to attend.
Describe the company's internship program.
I think we had a manageable amount of work throughout the summer; I never had to take work home or work overtime. A few times I was a little slow, but I found work to do by asking the analysts if they needed assistance or I read the numerous articles WTW has online about industry trends. The intern project also helped keep us busy.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, in short! I was excited about the opportunity to be a part of a client team, which seemed to be a newer addition. It gave me an idea of what my day-to-day life would be like as an analyst at the company. I wasn't expecting this aspect, but I thought it was especially valuable. As far as client work and the intern project, things were as expected, but I asked many questions about those prior to the internship.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
We had Independence Day off, but we were allowed to take time off if we needed. We also had a flexible end-date. We of course had daily breaks as well, which we took whenever it was most convenient for us/our work schedule.

Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I provided support on various client teams by working on a variety of projects. This included reviewing and analyzing financial data, reviewing and editing communication documents, and creating deliverables. I also worked alongside 2 other interns on an intern project in which we simulated creating and delivering a benefits presentation for a mock client.
Did you have a mentor?
No
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
While I did not have an officially designated mentor, everyone in the office was eager and willing to help me with the projects I worked on and also provided guidance throughout the summer.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
I learned a lot in RMI 3501 that helped me in my internship, primarily relating to the technical nature of health and welfare plans. This allowed me to understand the lingo industry professionals used when I sat in on client meetings and allowed me to spend time working on projects instead of having to learn all of this new material. Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
1 on campus interview after the reception, then was contacted regarding the offer.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
The interns in the Health and Benefits line of business worked together on an internship project. This project involved creating and delivering a slide deck to a mock client, with Willis Towers Watson colleagues serving as the clients at the meeting.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
We were taken out to various lunches, and there was also a happy hour for all of the colleagues in Health and Benefits.
Describe the company's internship program
The work load was generally a perfect amount- not too much with the feeling of being overwhelmed, but not too little either. The work itself was very engaging, as I was able to work with a variety of client teams on a variety of projects including both the financials and project management sides of the benefits industry.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
In some ways, the work was what I expected after the interview process- in speaking with those who had previously interned there and currently work there, I had an understanding of what the internship would look like. I learned a significant amount in terms of understanding the industry, but I also learned a lot about how to work as a professional in benefits. This involved learning how to create effective deliverables, ask clients the right questions, and how to present slide decks.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Yes, the internship was very flexible- I was able to take off 2 days after the July 4th holiday to go on a vacation.

Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
Since WTW is a consulting firm, I worked with various client teams throughout the internship. I shadowed one specific team throughout the summer to observe the client interactions that the team had, but was pulled into other projects, which took up the bulk of my time. Two other interns and myself also worked on a mock-client presentation as a summer-long project and presented to a team of employees on our last day.
Did you have a mentor?
No
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
My AS classes helped me somewhat, because of the largely qualitative nature of consulting firms, my RMI 2901 class helped me the most. I think that taking AS 3596/3597 would help students the most who are interning/working full-time at a consulting firm.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
Interview process was short and sweet. Found out very quickly that I had the internship but had to wait about 8-9 weeks to find out if I had a full-time job after the internship ended.
Were you assigned any special projects?
Nothing special besides what was listed in the job description above.

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
Typically speaking I spent more than 40 hours in the office a week. Overtime had to be approved by the hiring manager, but often projects required many post work hours. Usually I would arrive at8:00 am and work through 5:30-6:00 pm each day. Projects were varied and included many different projects such as data scrubbing, accrued benefit valuation, and pension plan assumption analysis.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
The "buddy" system implemented at Willis Towers Watson was a friendly and social mentor program, which was very helpful in learning how to navigate the office and its events.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
I believe that some of my actuarial classes had relevance to my work but most of my preparation for the internship came through what I have learned in my involvement in Gamma Iota Sigma.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I first met with Willis Towers Watson at the Actuarial Science Career Reception. From there, I had one on campus interview followed by a set of interviews in the Philadelphia office. After completing the on site interviews, an offer was sent to me via email about 2 weeks later.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
The special project I was assigned was to analyze the actuarial equivalence factors of various pension plan assumptions from clients throughout the office. I then researched what ways the company could help its clients and expand its scope of work using my analysis. I was asked to present my finding to the senior consultants and management in my practice.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
Housing stipend was provided. There was a biweekly lunch with senior members of the practice. Our client teams also attended happy hours and went bowling after work hours.
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The internship program was mostly based on joining client teams in the office in order to help them accomplish a specific project. In this way the work was very realistic and applicable and always remained new and interesting. Some tasks were specifically structured within the internship program but for the most part the work was ad hock. The interns did have the opportunity to attend seminars on relevant work topics and present topics which we researched to senior members of the practice.

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
I worked a standard 40 hour work week to support 10-15 reinsurance brokers on accounts in different stages in the renewal process. I helped organize and streamline the quote tracking process as well as preparing for client meetings.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I was able to ask her questions that I was not comfortable asking my line manager. Also, I could talk to her surrounding my experience and thought about the internship program and what I wanted in a career.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes. I was able to follow conversations in the office, with clients, and with the markets because I was exposed to industry jargon in class. I felt that I could add value to conversations since I had the core knowledge and could think of ideas from that base.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
Met the hiring manager at the intern reception in the fall. The first round was a 30 minute interview with a alumni broker on campus. Final round interview was at the office in Radnor in which we met with four different leaders in the office for 30 minutes each. The offer came within one week.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
My main project was helping the broker team on an 8/1 renewal in which I completed the quote tracking document. I then presented this in the firm order terms meeting. I also completed deductible and limit risk profiles for prospective clients. In addition, I did weekly reinsurance learnings and discussed current
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
Yes. Several lunches with the team, softball and happy hours every week, and study hours were provided for the actuarial interns.
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
There was a three day orientation with all (18) of the U.S. interns in NYC in which we had formal orientation in the company's New York Office. We had weekly speaker sessions with different leaders in the company where we could learn about different career paths and have the opportunity to ask questions. Halfway through the internship, we were given a group project that was to be completed with the other interns in our location and presented in the second to last week. We also had weekly training sessions on different business parts or general insurance knowledge.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
We had time off for national holidays
I worked a standard 40 hour work week to support 10-15 reinsurance brokers on accounts in different stages in the renewal process. I helped organize and streamline the quote tracking process as well as preparing for client meetings.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I was able to ask her questions that I was not comfortable asking my line manager. Also, I could talk to her surrounding my experience and thought about the internship program and what I wanted in a career.
