Actuarial Science
Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I provided daily support to the actuarial pricing team, consisting of writing SQL queries, compiling and organizing data from external vendors for benchmarking, analyzing specific accounts and applying actuarial judgement on repricing recommendations, and a summer long group intern project to assist in the recruitment of intern/employees.
Did you have a mentor?
No
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
While I did not have a specific mentor, my manager and the entire pricing team were very welcoming and happy to help with any questions I had.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes. They gave a vital foundation of knowledge about insurance, without which I would not have gotten as much out of the internship otherwise.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
It was very straightforward. After speaking at Gamma's career reception, I was asked for an on site interview, after which I was offered the internship.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
No. TMNAS provides support for their clients, so our work would vary with our client's needs.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Lunch was provided on several occasions
Describe the company's internship program.
Everyone was very welcoming. The work load was never a problem and people were happy to help if you were having trouble with something. Housing was not provided, but the drive is very short from Temple. During the summer the HR team hosted several professional development meetings, and ice cream was provided in their outdoor area one afternoon.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes. I felt I was able to expand upon and apply concepts I learned in the classroom and through Gamma.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Yes. The office was closed for several holidays over the summer

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
Assisted with quarterly reserve reviews by analyzing diagnostic data, determining appropriate development factors, and assigning weights to different development methods based on my analysis. Also automated tasks through VBA and SQL
Did you have a mentor?
No
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I didn't have a specific mentor, but the entire actuarial team was very supportive and welcomed any questions I had.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
My AS and RMI courses provided me with the base knowledge I needed to understand what I was working on and how it affected the company.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I interviewed at the Bala Cynwyd office after being selected from the Gamma resume book.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I was put on a team with interns from other projects and tasked with creating a brochure and 3 minute video that the company could possibly use at campus recruiting events.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
Lunch was occasionally provided
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The actuarial intern program is not very rigid with interns typically working on one large project while also being assigned smaller, ad-hoc projects as they arise. The work load is reasonable and there aren't typically hard deadlines.
