Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
I was included in all the day to day operations of the risk managers. I sat in on meetings with coworkers, customers, and our insurance broker. I gathered the underwriting information needed to renew the insurance policy.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor introduced me to many of his coworkers in the office that he talks to on a day-to-day basis. Whenever I was stuck on a project, he would help me and walk me through how to do it. He was very personable and willing to talk about anything.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, in our renewal meeting with our insurance broker, I was able to go along with the conversation and know what they were talking about thanks to my RMI classes.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
Very easy person to interview with. The process was easy and quick moving since it was late in the recruiting process.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I was in charge of reaching out to different departments to try and gather information needed to renew the company's multiple insurance policies.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
I was sent to different companies such as Aon for "Intern Day" where I was able get an inside look at everything that Aon offers. I was also sent to multiple seminars, including one that trained me in office ergonomics.
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
It was more of an informal internship, however they always had work that needed to be done and were very personable. They introduced me to many other people from different departments within the company and I was able to find out more about what they do in the company
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
The 10 week internship was sponsored by RIMS. My manager was very flexible if I needed to take time off, as long as I finished all 10 weeks of the internship by the beginning of the school year.
