Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I performed duties of an underwriting analyst while also sitting with my mentor - who was an actual underwriter - and learned and did with his supervision what he does as an underwriter.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
Would help me in my day-to-day tasks. Would have me sit with them and show me what they do as an underwriter and the process.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
Nothing too crazy. Sat down with NSM at Gamma intern fair. Had second interview with NSM at Temple. Got an offer the weekend after.
Were you assigned any special projects?
Yes, all interns at NSM were assigned a final project. This was a group project and we presented it to senior leadership. What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Training sessions on several different areas were performed Tuesday's and Thursday's. A number of lunches were held with different members during the week. I attended one Phillies game with my department.
Describe the company's internship program.
Internship program was great. Tuesdays and Thursdays there were industry and professional training sessions. Thursday also had a weekly roundtable which informed the interns of what different programs the company had did. There were two dinners held at the Ace Club with senior leadership and program directors. Also, there were events such as trivia, cornhole, and a volunteer day. Workload was manageable given the busy schedule.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Yes, 4th of July (Thursday and Friday). Memorial Day. Also, full-days/half-days were granted if needed.

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
The hours were 8-5 every day with a 1 hr lunch break. Most of my internship consisted of filing away documents, retrieving documents, and updating systems. My department oversaw all surplus lines, so I assisted my team with gathering the information that they needed to file taxes.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I reported to her daily for projects and for help. She also sat in when my team practiced our presentation and gave us tips.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, I definitely had more background knowledge on the industry as compared to non-Temple interns
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
The first interview was at the internship reception. NSM then came to Temple for an on-campus interview. The last interview was at NSM, where I also got a tour and had to take the Caliper test
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
Yes; there was a summer long program to develop a new insurance program. We were assigned groups of 3 or 4 people and presented our project to the C suite employees at the end of the summer.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
There were happy hours, dinners, plenty of free food, a bubble soccer game, summer-end scavenger hunt, volunteer opportunities, and a gym.
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The company has a very open atmosphere so it's easy to get to know one another. We had a few training sessions throughout the week which taught us about the different programs, operations, and personal development.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
We could take time off as long as we gave a long enough notice.
