Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I supported my team with completing analytics tasks like loss runs and loss analysis requests. I also did technical work like checking policies and creating presentations for clients. I completed my summer by having a final project that myself and the other P&C interns presented to some of the company executives.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
She was a resource for any questions I had and also gave me advice when needed.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, contracts really gave me a leg up when it came to navigating policy language and review. I would also say that I had a better base knowledge from both boot camp classes than the other interns.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I had a phone interview and then an in person final interview.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I was assigned a final project to complete with the other interns, where we had to do an RFP from start to finish and present it to some of the companies executives.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
I attended a few lunches with carriers as well as ones just with my team. I also did a couple events with my office for various philanthropic organizations.
Describe the company's internship program.
The intern program is whatever you put into it. I was very involved and constantly asking for work so I was busy almost always. There were plenty of projects that I could help with. They didn't overload me but allowed me to ask them for more if I needed it. The culture and atmosphere is something I immediately took a liking to because of how helpful and welcoming everyone was from the start. I never had to do any work outside of the office and travel was minimal. I participated in the Philly insurance softball tournament and it was a great time.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes and no. It was a bit more technical support work than I expected but that was not anything that I was disappointed in. I gained incredibly valuable knowledge about the industry and the impactfulness of strong relationships.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
If I needed to take a personal day I was allowed to. (unpaid) I also got 4th of July off and the 5th

Risk Management and Insurance with a minor in Business Analytics
Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
Conducted benchmarking analysis's for clients medical, prescription drug, and dental plans. Went to market for health insurance, disability, vision, dental, life, voluntary benefits, etc. Conducted numerous requests for proposals (RFPs). Calculated actuarial values. Conducted "benefit guide consolidations" in which I combined open-enrollment guides of companies that just merged to form a single document.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
Fielded my many questions throughout my time at Lockton. Always there for support and guidance.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Absolutely; and I was 10x more equipped then other interns.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
The GIS process prepared me well for the interviews and dining experiences with the company.
Were you assigned any special projects?
If so please describe. Yes, I went to market for a few clients for proposals. I designed a renewal PowerPoint that was presented during a client renewal presentation. I went to market for a client who wanted Pet Insurance, created and delivered my results (40 slides presented to high-ups), and settled on a provider with the client.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
I went to many lunches with high-ups at the company, attended a Phillies game, participated in numerous fundraisers/charitable events, attended the company picnic in Jersey City, attended numerous happy hours.
Describe the company's internship program
Great culture at Lockton, truly a work hard play hard environment. Everyone there wants you to succeed which boosts your confidence. Outside of work, the employees were wonderful people to hang around. The work load was manageable but a lesson in itself. They want to see how you can manage the different projects given to you. Amazing place to work.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process? Much better than I thought it was going to be. I was very nervous in the beginning, but I was welcomed by the entire team and learned fast!
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
You could take time off, but I did not.

Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
My day-to-day was very hands-on with the opportunity to interact with many associates such as Benefits Analysts and Account Managers. Every day was practically different, but included a mix of training, projects, department meetings, client renewal meetings, and lunch and learns. Projects consisted of benchmarking, demographic analysis, SPD reviews, RFPs, contract reviews, and many more.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor was a Temple graduate and was previously a summer intern at Lockton. He helped me with any question I had on assigned projects and gave me tips throughout the course of my internship. In addition to helping me in the office, he also helped me become familiar to Washington, DC and recommended the best places to grab lunch.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, going into the internship I felt that I was well educated especially when we had the “101 training.” The “101 training” were basically training to educate us on medical, dental, disability, life and AD&D, etc. For these training, we would have to take a pre and post test and I passed these tests during the pre-test stage.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I had a screening interview at the career reception which followed by a two-person interview in the Gamma office with two Senior Account Managers. The next interview was in Lockton’s office in Washington, DC. This interview was with five people including two previous interns that were employed full-time as an Account Manager and Account Administrator, a Senior Account Manager, a Unit Leader, and the Senior Vice President/Employee Benefits Practice Leader. The last interview was mostly behavioral/personality questions and gave me the opportunity to ask questions about the internship program and Lockton.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
There was not necessarily any “special” projects, but the other Temple intern and I were assigned various projects that helped prep for several client meetings.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Yes, during our first day we did a scavenger hunt around the office/city with the other interns in the office. We were also given some Lockton gifts including a backpack, Yeti, speaker, padfolio, and more. During our first week, we flew out to New York for the North East Series State of the Companies. This event was at a beach yacht club, where I had the opportunity to meet other interns, workers, and Temple alumni in the Series. The first Friday of each month we had “Lockton Lunch” and everyone in the office was allowed to wear jeans and lunch is provided. We also attended a “Day at the Park” where we went to a Washington Nationals baseball game. In addition, we went to happy hours and participated in a kickball league. On selected Fridays, we had “Beer Fridays” in the office from 4-5 which were sometimes themed (Example: Mario Kart Tournament).
Describe the company's internship program.
The company’s atmosphere is work hard, play hard. The internship is very well-rounded and gives you a hands-on experience. Sometimes the workload may seem overwhelming, but once you get the hang of the projects it becomes less stressful and everyone is willing to help when needed. Overall, the program was well designed and helped prepare for a job in the industry. Housing was not provided, but I did find affordable living with a kitchen at George Washington University which was only about a 10-15 minute to the office.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
Yes, we had off on the Fourth of July.

Risk Management and Insurance, Finance
Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
My day to day with Lockton consisted of assisting the brokers with their client work. The internship was split 5 weeks with one team, 5 weeks with another. I chose the Cyber and Casualty team. I helped them sift through client programs and help provide the best brokerage for that particular business. I worked on premium audit allocations and reviewed policies. It was a diverse learning experience because of my work with cyber insurance.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor helped in answering questions about the industry that I did not know how to go about finding the answers to. Things that you can't learn in a textbook or school or necessarily look up, your mentor is going to help you with.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, they laid a good foundation for what I did in my internship but you learn the best on the job.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
2 phone interviews, one in person interview. Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe. I worked on a project with another intern that was for our Northeast Team CEO. It was a project that summarized all of Lockton's major clients by premium, countries we do business in, lines of business by premium, and countries with the highest premium and remuneration. It was an excel based project that we turned into a PowerPoint so that if our CEO is abroad, he knows the major lines of business in that country, top clients, and top countries to focus on.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
Happy Hours, Beer Fridays, plenty of lunches with carriers and clients.
Describe the company's internship program.
I worked 8-5 or 9-5 usually, sometimes more if I had to. They don't pay for housing in NYC but pay you a competitive salary. Most interns found affordable housing in the city.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, but better! This internship was nearly 2 years ago and I still keep in touch with my bosses at Lockton.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
4th of July off.

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
As a Summer Associate at Lockton Companies in their New York Office, I learned about all of their different product lines through a ten week rotational program. We spent a week in different lines such as International, Property, Casualty, Legal and Financial Services, Employee Benefits, Real Estate, Construction, and more. I worked five days a week from 9am to 5pm.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I did not utilize my mentor as much as I should have. He let me sit in on some phone calls and meetings.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
As the only Risk Management student interning with the company, I definitely felt much more prepared and knowledgable about the industry and how the business worked.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I interviewed with Lockton at the Spring internship reception and then had a phone interview with the hiring manager at the New York office a week later.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
In addition to the work we were assigned in each of the product lines, the interns and I worked on a group project throughout the summer which we ultimately presented to the board of directors. We decided to create and underwriting system for cyber risks and then used it to create a cyber bond which transfers a company's cyber risk to the capital market.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
Lunches were provided on occasion. We were also able to attend special offsite events like State of the Companies.
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The internship was a lot of learning in a classroom style setting but they plan on changing it in the future to accommodate for Risk Management and Actuarial Science students. Instead of spending as much time in the classroom learning about insurance and the different product lines, Risk and Actuarial students will be assigned more tasks to complete.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
I was able to take off any days that I needed to.
If you had to relocate, describe the process of adapting to a new city.
I spent the summer in New York City. It was very easy to learn the subway system by using different apps such as CityMapper.

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
The internship drastically changes day to day. Outside of trainings that are spread out during the week, there is no strict schedule. With this structure, the main objective of interns is to support the "Unit" (Account managers, Account Executives, Account Administrators, etc...) that they are assigned to with whatever they have on their plate. This causes workload to fluctuate, however, 90% of my work were things that would eventually be seen by the client.
Did you have a mentor?
Yes
If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor was there to answer virtually any question that I had throughout the course of the internship. That ranged from help with a project that I could be working on, or where in the city to get my haircut. My mentor had also previously been a summer intern.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes. I knew more going into the internship than my fellow interns.
Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I had a brief interview at the career reception and one hour long video interview.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
Yes. At the end of the internship I was assigned a final project that all interns from all of the departments had to collaborate on.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
Yes. I was flown out to Kansas City to visit the headquarters. While there I attended a Royals game and I also attended a Nationals game while in DC. The first Friday of every month is Lockton lunch. The entire office is allowed to wear jeans to the office and lunch is provided for the entire office. There were also "Beer Fridays" which were impromptu happy hours that took place in the office form 4-5 on select Fridays.
Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
A work hard play hard atmosphere. While at times the workload could be very stressful, the workplace was fun an equal amount of times. One day I could be swamped with projects that have deadlines of that same afternoon. Other days I was able to have a putting contest in the office with my intern coordinator.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
No
If you had to relocate, describe the process of adapting to a new city.
I relocated and lived in the GW dorms. Housing was expensive but I had a 10 minute walk to work in the morning as opposed to taking the metro.
