Act Sci, minor: Statistics
Provide a general description of the work at your internship.
I helped create and use a SAS model to evaluate the impact of changes to the U65 ACA insurance market.
Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes - the analytical background these classes gave me helped me be prepared to make valuable conclusions from the data.
Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I created an analysis on the impact of hospital-acquired conditions on Florida Blue's claims.
What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay?
We had 6 internship lunches throughout the summer. Housing was provided free of charge. On Thursdays, the department went bowling; on Fridays, the department played ultimate frisbee.
Describe the company's internship program.
There were a lot of outside work activities so we were able to develop close relationships with full-time employees. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. The work load was busy, but not overwhelming. The housing is in a hotel less than a 5 minute drive from work.
Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes, they definitely described the internship well during the interview process.
Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
We had one day of PTO and one half-day off following a volunteer day. We also had Memorial Day and the Fourth of July off.
